Antibiotics - to take or not to take

It is very easy for doctors to prescribe antibiotics. They are a wonderful thing to have around. However, our bodies can get used to them quite easily and then they are not effective in time of great need.
I was very careful about when my children got their antibiotics.
I got my tooth pulled yesterday and with that comes a subscription for an antibiotic. I have decided not to take it this time. It is the doctor's preventative measure.
My preventative measure will be to have no sugar until it heals! Sugar does something to the white cells and interferes with infection fighting.
I will basically eat fruit for the next few days....it takes fruit 20 minutes to digest and allows the body to work on healing. It takes meat 9 hours!
I will drink lots of
Kefir (click on that) as it is a probiotic and will pretty much not allow bad infectuous germs to get in my system.
Yep! I have made up my mind....not to take!

Candles Again!

It is the middle of April and the ground is covered with snow!!!! What is up with that. I will have to make the day better with candles! I have found a little shop in the Brookside area of Kansas City. It is called the 5B Candle shop. They make their own candles right there in the shop. They only make votive size candles and the smell is the best!!!!! It can be overwhelming to try to choose the scents you want to bring home with you because there are so many. At Christmas time I took my youngest son in to let him pick out a dozen votive candles to take back to California. I was smelling all the holiday scents as he was going along the wall checking them all out. He said, "Hey, here is one that is called 'the bottom of mom's purse'!" I asked if it smelled like gum....sure enough, it does! :?)
I find that if I put my votive candles in a container they fit into exactly they last longer. So, I buy the cheap clear cylindrical votive candle holders at WalMart and place them inside the prettier candle holders! I only run one scent at a time. All the other candle holders have unscented tea lights in them. I look for those bargains where you get 100 tea lights at half off and then I stock up on those!
Ahhhh....let the scent begin!

Ironing

When I was in sixth grade my sister went off to college. That meant that the family ironing became my job! Ugh! Mom would call me in from playing with the neighbor kids to do the ironing. There were still three kids at home and Mom and Dad! In those days you sprinkled the clothes to get them damp and then you put them in the freezer to freeze them before ironing. I detested ironing.
When Gary and I were newly weds we had several spats over the issue of ironing. He was disappointed to get up and get ready only to find I had not ironed anything! One day I sat in Sunday School observing a young man whose clothes were disgustingly wrinkled. I decided right then and there that my husband would never go in public looking as though his wife did not love him!
I started ironing for him on a consistent basis. When the kids came along, I felt like I could not let them go in public looking like their mother did not love them. So, back to ironing for three kids and Mom and Dad! There was a time I actually kept up with all the ironing by racing against the dryer. I tried to get one load ironed before the next load dried in the dryer.
The kids are gone but I still iron for him. Often, I still think, "only because I love him!" I think he too is aware that his ironed clothes are there for him because I love him!

Modern Conveniences

While Tricia was nursing Zion yesterday she had the fun of reading a book I had in my yellow room. The name of the book is How to Bring Up a Baby A Hand Book for Mothers. This book was my grandmothers to be used for raising my mother who just turned 89 last week! It was put out by Procter and Gamble.
This is just one of the interesting statements we found in the book.
It is describing a modern convenience for bathing.
"A porcelain bath-tub with hot and cold water, a shower bath and a needle bath, in which tiny jets of water sting the skin into a ruddy glow, are desirable - When they can be had. Towels and Ivory Soap are indispensable additions to such luxuries.
Fortunately for those who can not afford a palatial bath room, it is not an absolute necessity for either health or comfort.
Substitute
A square of oilcloth, rubber cloth, or table oilcloth, a good-sized basin and a pail of water can take its place without detriment. A cake of Ivory Soap is within reach of every mother and with this she can keep the skin of her children in perfect condition.
A somewhat more elaborate equipment consists of a portable tin or porcelain bath-tub, a washcloth or a piece of flannelette, a sponge, a cake of Ivory Soap, a bath thermometer and a couple of very soft towels.
The water should be soft and of a temperature of 95 degrees in winter and from 85 to 90 in summer. Satisfy yourself by the termometer that it is neither too hot or too cold."
